Welcome to Kuu Ipo!

I just got a sim!

I’ve named it Kuu Ipo.  Ku’uipo means “my sweetheart” in Hawaiian.  I thought about what to name my sim for quite a while, and I know it makes more business sense to name your sim the same as your business? But I followed my heart, instead, and chose a name for it that I love. 😀

I’m hoping to share all this space with a few people, so if you’ve been looking for land to rent for your store, I just might have a new home for you! I’m renting out a couple of quarter sims and another parcel that is a bit over an 8th of a sim. Kuu Ipo will be the main location for my own store, Mela’s, as well as the recently revived pose store Poseur, which is co-owned by a team of pose designers. The sim adjoins the popular Juicy Estates area (with sims like Malt, Juicy, Juicy Mirabella, Yabu, and more for neighbors) and is directly side by side with the Juicy De Costa sim.

I am still working on the sim, but here are a few shots and a short video of what’s there so far. Decorating the sim is proving to be a lot of fun!

If you’re interested in renting, please let me know! You can IM me in-world, my SL name is Melanie774 Kidd. Or, you can leave a comment on this post and I’ll get back to you when I’m online again.

Please feel free to visit the sim!  Kuu Ipo 120, 128, 23

evie’s closet Lucky Chair has been relocated — thanks, Gogo!

The response to the lucky chair at Evie’s Closet has been so overwhelming, that Evie posted this in her group not too long ago:

So.. I just woke up, and  it seems the response to the Lucky Chair Gown was so overwhelming, it wreaked some havoc with the Sim.

Not something I anticipated… and the Sim Owner had to return the Chair to my Inventory.

Please give me a day or two to find a solution, and I will make the chair available for as many days AFTER October 31st to compensate.

Frustrating, but I thank you for your patience and understanding. :/

I was like, oh noes 😦  But then good news followed that rather quickly!

The lovely, and generous Gorgeous Yongho has offered the Lucky Chair a place on the Juicy Sims!  *If you see her, PLEASE thank her effusively*

Attached is a LM…. It will bring you right here. Please pass it on to those people NOT in the Group, who might need to know, and thank you SO much again, for your patience! xoxo

Yay, thank you Evie and thank you Gogo!  <333  Now my altie can get a crack at getting the gown too :p

In case you haven’t seen the gown yet, here it is again:

Here is the LM to the new chair location:

Cool New Casuals at Laqroki!

(Before I start, full disclosure: I work at Laqroki [customer service]. I chose to apply for work there [back when it was RaC] because I love their skins. When I finally made it into Second Life roughly a year and a half ago, I spent two weeks searching for my perfect skin. It took me that long to find the right skin because in addition to wanting something that had a light, fresh look without heavy makeup, I also wanted a darker skintone that befitted my Filipino, Chinese, and Spanish ethnic mix. I’d found RaC very early, and after looking at countless demos after two weeks my choice was clear. ^_^)

The talented graphic designers behind the Laqroki brand, Mallory Cowen and Winter DiPrima, have opened the doors to their new apparel shop, something I’ve been looking forward to for a while now! I’m usually somewhat prone to writing a lot but this time I will try to let the pictures do most of the talking. 🙂 Speaking of pix, if you are on my flickr contacts list then you should be able to view the large versions of these images (they are kinda big lol).

laqroki trench jacket

❤ the sculpted collar on the trench jacket!

Laqroki Tee wVest + Skinny Jeans

Laqroki cardigan + shorts

Laqroki knit cardigan + high waist jeans

Laqroki boatneck tee + suspender jeans

I am a suckah for anything with a boatneck cut at the neckline.  Seriously.  (That, and 3/4 sleeves are hawt.)

Laqroki Skinny Jeans backview

And the ever important jeans question:  will your ass look good in these?  Yes, it will :p  One of the things I always notice about jeans and pants in SL is whether the back pockets sit on your rump where they are supposed to, or if they’re kind of melting off your behind and onto the backs of your thighs.  I’m happy to report that the pockets on these are placed where they ought to be 😀

And men, you have definitely not been left out of the party.  There’s a really nice selection of men’s clothing and accessories ^_^

what i’m wearing

Okay, this will be a quick and dirty post! I put the Get Happy poses up for sale last night and ever since then a lot of people have been asking for the details on the outfit. So, I figured I’d post about it on my blog 🙂

get happy preview 04

Sorry, no SLURLs in today’s post, I didn’t have time to copy them.  I’m putting the names of the content creators instead; you should be able to search for their profiles and then get TPs to their stores via their picks/classifieds.

Suit is the charlie girl freebie outfit from Four Yip, in her shanty/peepshow place with all her other awesome freebies.

Skin, prim lashes, and manicure is from Laqroki, by designer Mallory Cowen.

Sexy pumps are from Juicy shoes.  Search for the name Juicy Littlething and a teleport will be in her picks and classified, I think.

Hair and fedora is from ETD by Elikapeka Tiramisu… I believe she sells the hat separately, too.

Stockings are from Blaze, by designer Blaze Columbia.  They’re in a pack by themselves, but someone told me today that they’re also included with Blaze’s suits so if you’ve got a suit from there, chances are you already have this!

Oh and of course the pose is from Mela’s… my store 😀  Okay, so there’s that SLURL, what can I say?  I had it handy :p

Juicy & irkmade

man in the moon

Hap Underwood of Irkmade just released this fun sculpted moon. Embedded in it are several fun animations; I took a few quick snapshots but I just know there are tons of great photography opportunities to be had with this new toy 😀

man in the moon II

Elven Dreamscape of Juicy Shoes provided such an opportunity with the release of the new scrumptious slingbacks. These sexy new shoes come in the same broad range of mouth-watering colors as their Classic Pumps, and the sitting pose on the moon came in perfect for showing them off.

Elven’s worked sculpt magic again on these babies; the primwork is immaculate. Anyone who knows me is aware that I am picky about my shoes, mainly because I really, really, really hate when I put a shoe on and see slivers of foot gone “missing” due to some invisiprim parts sticking out and covering it. That drives me crazy. Elven’s deft touch with sculpts and prims mean you never deal with this type of glitch, and I can only think of a handful of other shoe designers that seem able to pull this off consistently.

Technical aspects aside, the aesthetics also please greatly — once again Juicy shoes hit that sweet spot with the toes, falling nicely between too pointy and too round. The buckles and the heelcaps also sport texture-changing so that you can change the metals from gold to silver, or you can make them black. As for the shoe’s color textures? They are gorgeous! They’ve got the right amount of highlighting/shine on them, and the array of colors means your wardrobe’s covered. In fact, there’s so many colors I didn’t bother taking pics of all of them… I got lazy. So I “stole” this pic off Gogo’s flickr, hehe :p

Other details about what I’m wearing in the images above may be found after the cut:

May Day is Lei Day in Hawaii

Hawaii Pono’i, nana i kou mo’i, ka lani alii, ke alii
Makua lani e, Kamehameha e, na kaua e pale, me ka ihe

Aloha kakahiaka 😀

May 1st in Hawaii Nei is first and foremost considered Lei Day, and while I do love playing at being all sorts of things in SL — a faun, a siren, a medieval maiden — there are times when I love being able to make my avatar feel like home, so I’m always tickled when I come across items in SL that remind me of my beloved island home. ^_^

Here are a few of my favorite items I’ve found; more info on the items below will appear after the cut (if the cut even works at all on the feeds lol):

plumeria

Plumeria flowers are super common in Hawaii, so I was really pleased to find these well-made plumeria hair ornaments and this lei. The blossoms for your hair actually come in three colors, and go on either side of your head to indicate whether you’re single or spoken for, cute touch imo!

I’m infatuated with this hair, partly because it reminds me so much of the way the dancers from the hula halau will arrange their hair when about to perform in events like the Merrie Monarch Festival.

orchid lei

This orchid lei actually comes in two colors; I chose the white one but you can also get a pink version.

I had wanted to rez a copy of this lei in order to unlink it and create a matching hair ornament, but it’s no modify. I think I may suggest creating a matching blossom for tucking behind the ear, to the person who made it. ^_^

kukui

The kukui nut lei is often used for dressing up for formal events. I was thrilled to find this! The place where I found it also sells an anklet version; because they’re copy/modify, I was able to mod one into a bracelet. ❤ I might try rezzing a copy of one of the anklets later so that I can unlink the prims and mod a couple into a pair of matching earrings.

bone fishhook

This is not something I’d wear around my neck in RL, lol, but it’d definitely work as a decorative hanging in my car on the rearview mirror (right now I’ve got a dried orchid lei hanging there). I thought it looked really cool, though, so I picked it up :p

When my friend Tea (who is also from Hawaii) and I saw this hairstyle, it immediately reminded us both of home! The local girls often put their hair up in a style similar to this, myself included. After pairing this hairstyle with shorts and “rubbah slippahs” (flip-flops to all you mainland folk), I can almost smell the ocean, hear the chatter of people on the beach and the occasional braddah playing his uke and singing, and taste the spam musubi. 😀

ti leaf lei

The ubiquitous maile lei, common at weddings and graduation ceremonies and hula festivals all throughout the 808 State, is actually nowhere to be found in SL. The closest thing to it I’ve found are these ti leaf leis which mimic the look of the maile. These are at the same place where I found the orchid leis.

If you feel like listening to a bit of Hawaiian music, here’s a favorite stream of mine that’s on my parcel’s music stream changer, you’ll hear the likes of Israel Kamakawiwoole, Kealii Reichel, and Hapa:

Mountain Apple Company

When my friend Gogo found out about Lei Day, she decided to set aside a spot on Juicy just for celebrating this ^_^

Okay, and now for those details about what is being worn in the pics above…

D!FF Isometric Dresses

I think I’m starting to notice a pattern in my shopping habits:

I like cute dresses.
I tend to favor the shops that have the kinds of prices that make it super easy for me to justify buying lots of stuff in one helping (i.e., ❤ Cupcakes, Fireflies, D!FF, Magnolia, just to name a few).
The more versatile the item is, the better.

D!FF’s new Isometric Dress, which comes in three color combinations, happily fulfills all these criteria. ^^

D!FF Isometric Dresses

Clicking on the above image should take you to the flickr page where you can view a larger version.

The flexi-prim skirts have been given a flattering shape and the hem length is instant cuteness. The tops are provided on both the shirt and jacket layer, making it easy for you to mix things up with other items in your inventory and thus attain your own individual look.

The design of the dress is simple enough so that it lends itself to a variety of different looks, while the vibrant colors and the pattern keep things visually interesting and fun. Just add the right hairstyles, shoes, and other accessories, and you can go from a look that’s appropriate for a day at the park or the zoo, to a smart looking get-up for visiting the art museum. (Yay for coming up with scenarios for your clothes while playing dress-up ^_^ )

Read on after the cut for details and SLURLs for the three looks in the image above…

Fancy Fairy by Violaine Villota

Fancy Fairy by Violaine Villota

Heads up! This post will have oodles of pics plus a very short video. 😀

All right, so I am still on my fantasy fashion kick, where I’m wanting to dress my avatar in ways that I wouldn’t dress in RL. My last couple of posts in this series were about these crazy cute rabbit costumes from Love Soul as well as beautiful medieval-inspired gowns from Evie’s Closet. ^_^

This time, I’ve meandered into the realm of mystical fairies. The lovely Violaine Villota’s shop, Fancy Fairy, (which btw exists in RL, too!  www.fancyfairy.com) comes stocked with a great selection of fairy wings and costumes, and the range of prices you’ll find there will fit anyone’s budget.

Fancy Fairy Dew Petal II

Fancy Fairy Dew Petal I

First item we have here is the Dew Petal Steel Blue outfit. I was immediately drawn to the beautiful color and texturing of this dress, which almost makes it look as if you are wrapped in layers of diaphanous gauze. Along the chest area are dewdrops (hence the name of the outfit), and the edges of the skirt prims have this gorgeous, gossamer-frail-torn look to them, thanks to some mad-skillz alpha work. And look at those wings! They’re somewhat sheer and move nicely with you since they’re made of flexi-prims.

Fancy Fairy Dew Petal III

Like the dress but don’t want to flounce about as a fairy? The dress works great on it’s own — pair it up with some strappy heels and you’re ready to go dancing instead of fluttering. Violaine has thoughtfully included two skirt lengths, the top on multiple layers, and two glitch pants, of which at least one was modifiable (I forgot to check if the other one was modifiable, too, but it wasn’t really necessary since it was already the perfect length to go with the shorter skirt.)

Fancy Fairy Red Leaf I

Next up is the autumnal Red Leaf Fairy outfit. The layers on this outfit are simple enough — an asymmetrical system skirt (wear your dress shape unless you want to be a large-bottomed fairy 😀 ), a system shirt with a “strap” (dunno what else to call it, lol) going over one shoulder; but my goodness the artistry displayed by the textures is impressive! They’re a delicate blend of browns, siennas, burnt reds, golds, purples, dark blues… really marvelous looking stuff. Again, the alpha work along the edges of the top and the skirt are fab.

Fancy Fairy Red Leaf II

As beautiful as those textures are on the clothing pieces, however, the true crowning glory of the Red Leaf outfit are the set of wings that come with it. I know I’m totally going to sound like a broken record by the end of this post… but look at the texture! The gold highlights on the wings themselves, the highlighting along the darker spines, the mottled edges and the alpha where they’re “torn”… gotta love it. Yes, these are flexi-wings, but what makes them special is that they are scripted to flutter via (silent) voice command. I took a short video to show them fluttering:

Fancy Fairy Fae Lingerie I

And you know what? Fairies need lingerie, too. (‘Kay, I just made that up. :p ) This is the Champagne and Roses Fae Lingerie set, just in time for all you romantics who want to celebrate Valentine’s Day. These pretties come with a two-piece bra and panty set, sheer pink stockings, and two corsets that have a lace-up detail along the back.

Fancy Fairy Fae Lingerie II

I personally was super-impressed with the panties, because for crying out loud I dunno how many times I’ve had undies that did not cover up the crotch area as much as I’d like. What’s more, I saw nary a hint of the dreaded texture bleed along the inner thighs that is often associated with panties/bikini bottoms. Amazing.

Fancy Fairy Fae Lingerie III

And talk about comprehensive… every piece is on every layer possible, so you can mix and match these with other items to your heart’s content.

Fancy Fairy Fae Lingerie IV

And yes, this would not be fairy lingerie if it did not have the requisite fairy wings 😀 These are flexi-prim wings and not scripted.

Fancy Fairy Flexiwings

Fancy Fairy has an ample selection of wings to choose from, and yes, all of them are bloody gorgeous. Pictured above are the Kira Grande White Pearl Goldflexi wings and the Kira Valentine Pink Flexi Wings.

The wings come in two types: “plain” flexi-prim wings (“plain” is in quotation marks, because really, these are anything BUT bland) and scripted ones that will flutter, in a wide variety of colors to satisfy most, if not all, tastes. I believe all of the scripted wings will flutter solely by voice command, which IMHO is great because the last thing I want to do is give up more of my client’s real estate over to space-sucking HUDs.

Fancy Fairy freebie

And finally, we have the Sun Fairy outfit. Guess what! It’s only 1L. You have no excuse for not being a pretty princess fairy now. :p This outfit features flexi-prim wings, sculpted sleeve attachments, beautifully done skirt prims, an off-the-shoulder top with a rouching detail all along the flattering neckline, a gold, velvety-looking corset that’s laced up along the backside, and a some beautiful prim leaves and ribbons decorating the breast. There’s even a glove layer so that you have proper looking sleeve ends that go over your hands.

There’s lots more available at Fancy Fairy, and what’s nice is that the Dew Petal outfits, which come in all sorts of colors, can do double-duty as both fairy and evening wear. You can find the shop in the Fushida sim, or just look up Violaine Villota’s profile and check out her Picks tab where she’s got all her locations conveniently listed.

And one more thing to note — this shop is yet another great example of a RL business that takes advantage of SL in a way that shows some common sense.  If you like what Fancy Fairy offers in-world, then you might like what it has to offer in meatspace, as well.  Check out the website at fancyfairy.com ^^

Queen of Checker

Several weeks ago I was floating around random sims, in search of something a little different. As much as I love fashion in SL, the thing that I truly love about playing dress-up in our virtual world is being able to doll up my avatar in ways that I will probably never dress up in RL.

On a whim, I paid a visit to Vindi Vindaloo’s in Plush Kappa. As soon as I came across the dramatic Queen of Checker dress, I knew I’d found what I was looking for. Credits and SLURLs are after the cut.

Queen of Checker I

A checkered print runs along the long sleeves and the bottom hem of the long flexi-prim skirt, which is nicely textured to give it a look of depth and volume. (The flexi-prims do not entirely cover up the system layer skirt so you will need to wear your dress shape lest your hips and buttocks look disproportionately large.) Black feathers adorn an ostentatiously large collar dressing.

A dress like this deserves an equally dramatic makeup — red lips, dark smoky eyeshadow, and the larger the prim lashes, the better.

Queen of Checker II

One thing to note about the collar attachment is that the alpha in the texture for the feathers will interfere with the alpha in the texture for the collar prim. This is not a direly negative thing, in my opinion, but it is something to be aware of, especially when going through your inventory of hairstyles. My first choice of hair had actually been one of those gorgeously textured hairs from RaC (the Lioness hairstyle, to be exact), but the textures did not play nicely together and the result was just weird looking. I ended up wearing the Eglantine from ETD instead, which worked out nicely.

Queen of Checker III

I loved the back on this dress because of the way it shows off the curvature of the spine as well as the small of the back. It’s darkly sexy, with mostly skin being shown off through a web of thin black strips.

Queen of Checker IV

Helena Brow Jewels from Gogo

I was browsing the net just now when I paid my regular visit to Gogo’s website, and lo and behold, she’s got a fantastic looking freebie that she’s offering right now: a set of two brow jewels, one of which is color changeable simply by touch.

Make sure you head to La Reina and grab it today, though! It’s 0L but only for today.

(Soz Gogo, I totally lifted the pic from your site but I’m sure you won’t mind :p)
