Kouse’s Sanctum should be a familiar name to most who like to keep up with the latest in SL fashion, especially to those who frequently dress their avis in gowns befitting fantasy RP. If you aren’t, then you really ought to acquaint yourself with Kouse Singh’s work and consider joining the Kouse’s Sanctum update group for several reasons: she is a prolific designer with a quickly growing collection of beautifully textured gowns, and she showers her group members with all sorts of love in the form of frequent group gifts, exclusive group member discounts, and secret sales at “hidden” locations.
One of Kouse’s recent releases was her Willow gown, which comes in numerous color choices. Red being my favorite color, I had to get a shot of the Willow in Blood.
It is standard for Kouse to include attachment options. In the image above, I used the regular flexi-prim sleeves and the regular skirt, which is nice and full. The Willow gown also comes with the tiara pictured. ^_^
The other sleeve option, as shown in the Sapphire image, is called “delicate” for obvious reasons. The prims are smaller and sheer, giving it a lighter look. Also shown on the Sapphire gown is the “slim” skirt option.
As I mentioned earlier, the Willow gown is available in numerous colors — ten colors, to be exact! There’s something for everyone. I do love the color red, but the Ice version is so pretty, I’d be hard pressed to say which of the two are my favorite. Here is a close-up of the Ice gown, to give a better view of the lovely texturing on the bodice and the delicate sleeves:

Lately I’ve been lauding SL as a way to indulge in dressing up in fantastical ways that one would not in the real world. Sometimes, though, you come across an item in SL that makes you want to dress your avi in a way that is comfortably familiar and resembles the way you dress yourself in RL.
Tonight I came across a set of sculpted wedge shoes from HAYSURIZA that did just that for me.
Pictured above are HAYSURIZA’s Miki Wedge shoes in Autumn. Seeing these shoes instantly reminded me of my favorite pair of wedge heels and made me have a yearning for putting on the kind of laid-back, low-maintenance look that I favor for normal everyday use — a denim mini, a blouse, and then slap on some lipgloss and you’re ready to hit the road
The Miki Wedges come in five variations. Pictured next is the Spring version, which is a creamy off-white color and comes adorned with some pretty pastel baubles:
What appealed to me first and foremost about the Miki wedges is that they seem perfect for pairing with casual outfits; they’re pretty without being too dressy. I can totally imagine kicking these off and tossing them on the black sand at the beach without a second thought Up until now, I’d been wearing the Sunny and Brown Leather versions of my Maitreya Frisky wedges to death. (The brown leather version had been a group gift and I’m not sure if it’s available anymore.) These will make for a nice change. ^^
The texturing details on these shoes are very nicely done. I like the stitching details all along the strappy parts of the uppers, as well as the subtle highlighting. I especially like the textures used on the wedge heels for the winter, earth, and autumn versions, because they look so lifelike. Attention was also paid to the texture on the bottom of the shoe (which I did not take a picture of).
Four of the Miki wedges are named for the seasons, and the fifth is named Earth. The Winter wedge is black with a silvery colored stitch, Summer boasts a pinkish-coral color with white stitching, and the Earth version is a light yellowish-brown color with like-colored stitches. All versions feature a silver-textured buckle on the ankle strap and a few silver grommets, except for the Autumn wedge, which is given gold-textured details instead.

It’s RFL time again! Honestly, if it weren’t for Evie’s Closet participating, I probably would’ve held off going for a few days to avoid the inevitable crowds and lag. But… limited edition versions of the Love Story gown, Devotion dress, and another recoloring of the Romany Kiss being offered for free? Dude, that’s worth whatever amount of lag I must endure and however many crashes I must experience in order to get my hands on those asap
Here is the Love Story gown, exclusively for RFL:
Evie sent out a notice to her update group tonight that a red (my favorite color!) version of the Devotion dress was being sold only at the RFL Fair, never to be seen again once this is over. I was literally in the middle of writing a sentence via IM to Gogo when the notice hit my client, and I totally forgot I was talking about, hehe. I already have the white version of Devotion, which I really love, so when I found out about the red one, I *had* to get it. I made a beeline for the fair, where I was told I was the first person to grab it :p
Here is the Devotion dress in Blaze, for RFL… and btw, it is transferrable! I’m contemplating going back to buy extra copies to maybe give as presents later:
And finally, this freebie is being offered at Evie’s Closet at the RFL Fair, the Romany Kiss recolored:
Get thee to the Evie’s Closet booth at the RFL Fair in the Spring Sim: Rezzable Design 184, 185, 28
And of course, while you’re there, wander around and grab all the other limited edition items! There’s TONS of fab stuff. ^_^
Other credits and SLURLs to follow…
I’m naughty — I had these in my inventory for a bit and only got to blogging them today! It’s just that I’ve been busy/consumed/obsessed with different projects. This post will be picture-intense, so to balance things out I will attempt to refrain from indulging in my usual verbosity. Emphasis on the word “attempt”. :p
Okay… today’s post is all about a lovely shop named Kouse’s Sanctum. I first learned about the white-haired Kouse Singh on flickr, where she posts beautiful images from the fantasy side of SL. Think Avilion, elves, and dragons. ^_^ Well, I guess I’ve been residing under a sculpted rock or something because it was quite a pleasant squee-worthy surprise to discover that Kouse has been crafting beautiful gowns.
First gown up: the magnificent Celestial Empress gown in Azure. You know, my favorite color is actually red, but show me a dress like this and I could easily forget that fact, hehe. An Evanescence song came on the radio just as I put this on, so I might’ve channeled a very slight bit of Amy Lee when accessorizing. ^^
Here is the Emerald version:
You know what’s great about gowns like Kouse’s? Pair them up with a romantic hairstyle like this one and you get a perfect showcase for your lovely shoulders, and imho there’s blessed little out there that can capture that right balance of fantasy, romance and sexiness without venturing into tramp territory. Gratuitous shoulder shot next :p
Kouse is generous. This next version of the Celestial Empress is called the Midnight Kiss, and it’s a group freebie and even comes with a tiara and necklace.
The corset lacing along the back is positively delicious. I’m a big fan of stuff that shows off the curvature of the spine; the more, the better, I say!
Another series of gowns to take a look at is the Lady Serenity. This next photo shows the Cirrus version of Lady Serenity (worn with white hair in honor of Kouse ^^):
There is a subtle difference between the two dresses in that shot above — the skirt on the right is actually somewhat transparent. All of Kouse’s gowns come with different flexi-skirt options. Some are slightly transparent, others are built larger so that you can use the outfit as a ballgown.
Lady Serenity comes in other colors, too. Here it is in Red Rose:
Again, the two skirt options:
Last but not least, the Lady LeShelle dress in Forest:
Lady LeShelle comes with two prim belts in silver and gold. I meant to show the Lady LeShelle gown in black, too, but I couldn’t find some of the prim pieces in that great ever-expanding maw that I call my inventory.
Other credits and SLURLs after the cut. Missing SLURLs will be provided later when I log back in and can grab them; until then, the Search tool is your friend.
SL Relay For Life (RFL) activities will be starting up again soon, and I for one am looking forward to getting some limited edition goodies while knowing that my money is going towards an important cause! The SLRFL Clothing Fair will be kicking off in mere weeks, you can read more about it at their blog.
Thinking about SLRFL made me go back through my inventory to take a look at some of my favorite RFL items that I’d picked up last year.
First Impressions had these amazing pink suits that I couldn’t pass up. I loved that the shirts came on two layers and there were prim attachments like the necktie, blazer button, and sleeve cuffs:
Also from First Impressions was this set of sheer blouses inspired by the legendary Edith head:
And last but not least, this gown from analise that I *had* to have when I first learned about it:
There were soooooooooo many limited edition lovelies that I recall came out last year for RFL! Get your wallets ready, because I just know there’s going to be tons of must-haves this year, too… after all, the pics above are but a mere, miniscule sampling of what came out in 2007. Speaking of which, what were your favorites?
Read past the cut for info on other items used in this post ^^
I think I’m starting to notice a pattern in my shopping habits:
I like cute dresses.
I tend to favor the shops that have the kinds of prices that make it super easy for me to justify buying lots of stuff in one helping (i.e., <3 Cupcakes, Fireflies, D!FF, Magnolia, just to name a few).
The more versatile the item is, the better.
D!FF’s new Isometric Dress, which comes in three color combinations, happily fulfills all these criteria. ^^
Clicking on the above image should take you to the flickr page where you can view a larger version.
The flexi-prim skirts have been given a flattering shape and the hem length is instant cuteness. The tops are provided on both the shirt and jacket layer, making it easy for you to mix things up with other items in your inventory and thus attain your own individual look.
The design of the dress is simple enough so that it lends itself to a variety of different looks, while the vibrant colors and the pattern keep things visually interesting and fun. Just add the right hairstyles, shoes, and other accessories, and you can go from a look that’s appropriate for a day at the park or the zoo, to a smart looking get-up for visiting the art museum. (Yay for coming up with scenarios for your clothes while playing dress-up ^_^ )
I did my first poetry reading in SL yesterday.
I snapped that pic right before going up on the stage and reciting a sonnet over voice chat. This was pretty ridiculous of me, but I was like super silly nervous about it because the sonnet is something I’ve written. ^^ I’m usually extremely private when it comes to my writing but I was feeling kind of… well, anti-social for not sharing when everyone else was doing so. After a bit of waffling over whether I should do it or not, I finally took the plunge
The SL Poetry Group is one of my favorite groups that I belong to right now, even though I’ve been a part of it for maybe only a month. There are quite a few people who participate and they meet at regularly scheduled times all over the place. In regards to the use of voice, everyone is accommodated. I personally prefer using voice at these gatherings because I like hearing the readers (there’s this one woman named Morgue with a voice that was meant for reciting, it’s like butter and her accent is so pretty), but if you aren’t able to hook up sound or use a mic, that’s not a problem — the poems are also fed into these things called “line readers” which will recite the verse in public text chat in a different color (so as to differentiate the poetry from actual resident chatter). You can also have another voice user recite the poem for you if you’ve no desire to recite it yourself.
There were some bongos on the stage where I recited, lol. They really worked if you clicked them, too — it made me think of Mike Meyers and his beat poet in So I Married An Axe Murderer so for fun I put together my own pretentious poet outfit :p :
Fancy Fairy by Violaine Villota
Heads up! This post will have oodles of pics plus a very short video.
All right, so I am still on my fantasy fashion kick, where I’m wanting to dress my avatar in ways that I wouldn’t dress in RL. My last couple of posts in this series were about these crazy cute rabbit costumes from Love Soul as well as beautiful medieval-inspired gowns from Evie’s Closet. ^_^
This time, I’ve meandered into the realm of mystical fairies. The lovely Violaine Villota’s shop, Fancy Fairy, (which btw exists in RL, too! www.fancyfairy.com) comes stocked with a great selection of fairy wings and costumes, and the range of prices you’ll find there will fit anyone’s budget.
First item we have here is the Dew Petal Steel Blue outfit. I was immediately drawn to the beautiful color and texturing of this dress, which almost makes it look as if you are wrapped in layers of diaphanous gauze. Along the chest area are dewdrops (hence the name of the outfit), and the edges of the skirt prims have this gorgeous, gossamer-frail-torn look to them, thanks to some mad-skillz alpha work. And look at those wings! They’re somewhat sheer and move nicely with you since they’re made of flexi-prims.
Like the dress but don’t want to flounce about as a fairy? The dress works great on it’s own — pair it up with some strappy heels and you’re ready to go dancing instead of fluttering. Violaine has thoughtfully included two skirt lengths, the top on multiple layers, and two glitch pants, of which at least one was modifiable (I forgot to check if the other one was modifiable, too, but it wasn’t really necessary since it was already the perfect length to go with the shorter skirt.)
Next up is the autumnal Red Leaf Fairy outfit. The layers on this outfit are simple enough — an asymmetrical system skirt (wear your dress shape unless you want to be a large-bottomed fairy ), a system shirt with a “strap” (dunno what else to call it, lol) going over one shoulder; but my goodness the artistry displayed by the textures is impressive! They’re a delicate blend of browns, siennas, burnt reds, golds, purples, dark blues… really marvelous looking stuff. Again, the alpha work along the edges of the top and the skirt are fab.
As beautiful as those textures are on the clothing pieces, however, the true crowning glory of the Red Leaf outfit are the set of wings that come with it. I know I’m totally going to sound like a broken record by the end of this post… but look at the texture! The gold highlights on the wings themselves, the highlighting along the darker spines, the mottled edges and the alpha where they’re “torn”… gotta love it. Yes, these are flexi-wings, but what makes them special is that they are scripted to flutter via (silent) voice command. I took a short video to show them fluttering:
And you know what? Fairies need lingerie, too. (‘Kay, I just made that up. :p ) This is the Champagne and Roses Fae Lingerie set, just in time for all you romantics who want to celebrate Valentine’s Day. These pretties come with a two-piece bra and panty set, sheer pink stockings, and two corsets that have a lace-up detail along the back.
I personally was super-impressed with the panties, because for crying out loud I dunno how many times I’ve had undies that did not cover up the crotch area as much as I’d like. What’s more, I saw nary a hint of the dreaded texture bleed along the inner thighs that is often associated with panties/bikini bottoms. Amazing.
And talk about comprehensive… every piece is on every layer possible, so you can mix and match these with other items to your heart’s content.
And yes, this would not be fairy lingerie if it did not have the requisite fairy wings These are flexi-prim wings and not scripted.
Fancy Fairy has an ample selection of wings to choose from, and yes, all of them are bloody gorgeous. Pictured above are the Kira Grande White Pearl Goldflexi wings and the Kira Valentine Pink Flexi Wings.
The wings come in two types: “plain” flexi-prim wings (“plain” is in quotation marks, because really, these are anything BUT bland) and scripted ones that will flutter, in a wide variety of colors to satisfy most, if not all, tastes. I believe all of the scripted wings will flutter solely by voice command, which IMHO is great because the last thing I want to do is give up more of my client’s real estate over to space-sucking HUDs.
And finally, we have the Sun Fairy outfit. Guess what! It’s only 1L. You have no excuse for not being a pretty princess fairy now. :p This outfit features flexi-prim wings, sculpted sleeve attachments, beautifully done skirt prims, an off-the-shoulder top with a rouching detail all along the flattering neckline, a gold, velvety-looking corset that’s laced up along the backside, and a some beautiful prim leaves and ribbons decorating the breast. There’s even a glove layer so that you have proper looking sleeve ends that go over your hands.
There’s lots more available at Fancy Fairy, and what’s nice is that the Dew Petal outfits, which come in all sorts of colors, can do double-duty as both fairy and evening wear. You can find the shop in the Fushida sim, or just look up Violaine Villota’s profile and check out her Picks tab where she’s got all her locations conveniently listed.
And one more thing to note — this shop is yet another great example of a RL business that takes advantage of SL in a way that shows some common sense. If you like what Fancy Fairy offers in-world, then you might like what it has to offer in meatspace, as well. Check out the website at fancyfairy.com ^^

More goodies at La Reina & Evie’s Closet
Okay, so I know the hunt started like, yesterday, but there have been a few more additions to the freebies/dollarbies that you ought to check out. My friend Vivi shared some skins with me that she’d worked on, and they’re lovely! You can grab them for 1L each at my shop, Mela’s (the first one is my fav <3):
Another reason why you should return to La Reina even if you’ve already been there? Evie’s Closet has arrived! When I found out, my reaction was literally “omgggggg”… because I love her clothes. I have literally spent hours in her shop in the past, contemplating what to dress Medieval Melanie in next. Her designs and textures are lovely.
Anyways, she’s joined in on the freebie madness at La Reina This sweet outfit is free and I might be wrong but I think it’s available only at her La Reina shop right now:
I also love the Devotion gown that I got about a week ago. It made me want to get a castle and a unicorn ^_^
I’d also picked up her Peacock dress. The other two dresses depicted in the following image, however, are group freebies! If you love your avi, you will join her update group
Several weeks ago I was floating around random sims, in search of something a little different. As much as I love fashion in SL, the thing that I truly love about playing dress-up in our virtual world is being able to doll up my avatar in ways that I will probably never dress up in RL.
On a whim, I paid a visit to Vindi Vindaloo’s in Plush Kappa. As soon as I came across the dramatic Queen of Checker dress, I knew I’d found what I was looking for. Credits and SLURLs are after the cut.
A checkered print runs along the long sleeves and the bottom hem of the long flexi-prim skirt, which is nicely textured to give it a look of depth and volume. (The flexi-prims do not entirely cover up the system layer skirt so you will need to wear your dress shape lest your hips and buttocks look disproportionately large.) Black feathers adorn an ostentatiously large collar dressing.
A dress like this deserves an equally dramatic makeup — red lips, dark smoky eyeshadow, and the larger the prim lashes, the better.
One thing to note about the collar attachment is that the alpha in the texture for the feathers will interfere with the alpha in the texture for the collar prim. This is not a direly negative thing, in my opinion, but it is something to be aware of, especially when going through your inventory of hairstyles. My first choice of hair had actually been one of those gorgeously textured hairs from RaC (the Lioness hairstyle, to be exact), but the textures did not play nicely together and the result was just weird looking. I ended up wearing the Eglantine from ETD instead, which worked out nicely.
I loved the back on this dress because of the way it shows off the curvature of the spine as well as the small of the back. It’s darkly sexy, with mostly skin being shown off through a web of thin black strips.
