LAQ released a new Glow skin a little while ago, and her name is Carina Carina is actually one of the faces from the original Portrait collection, but given the “Glow” treatment — updated body, skin and facial features that are enhanced with a healthy “glow”, and sharpened details. The result? A skin that has a natural look and fresh feel to it.
Carina is available in three skintones, with eight makeups for each. Each makeup has a bald version, and a hairbase version for wearing with certain “hairbase” hairstyles from LAQ.

Well, I meant to blog about the re-release of the Lacie skins at LAQ as Glow skins a while ago now, but life has been rather hectic over the past week. (Just thinking about how crazy things were is making me tired again!) Better late than never, though, right?
The Lacie skins are available in four skintones, and each skintone comes with eight makeups. You get two versions of each makeup: bald, and hairbase for wearing with certain hairstyles. There’s a lot of pretty details on Lacie, but the part I love about this particular skin most are her eyes: she has deep set eyes that are framed by nicely done brows that aren’t too thick or too thin, but just right.
Anyway, enough talk… let’s just get on to the pics
You can click on the images above to see (much) larger versions of them on my flickr stream. Visit the Laqroki sim (Laqroki 154, 67, 23) to try demos of the skins.
On a side note, I never thought I’d see the day where I’d drop over 1k on a single pair of shoes in SL. Ever. But omg, I did! I splurged on a pair of Maitreya Gold shoes and I am 100% free of buyer’s remorse. These shoes boast prim toes/feet and the designers included skin presets/notes so that you can match them to most major designer skins. They’re fabulous so I *had* to show them in one of my pics <3

I love my Jasmin skins from Laqroki. I don’t wear these skins all the time, but they are among my all-time favorites, and today I felt like putting on my Jasmin skin with the streaky mascara.
SL fashion has never been about being “hip” or “fierce” or “making a statement” for me; it’s all about letting your imagination run wild, and playing at using your avatar’s appearance to tell a visual story. Kind of like when you’re four years old and putting on that pretty pink princess costume and tiara. When I studied my avi’s streaked eye makeup, I decided she needed a reason for looking as if she’d done some crying. I recalled a recent discussion with some friends during which I’d admitted to having a lot of wedding gowns in my inventory. Voila! The Jilted Bride, hehe.
Out of all the gowns I own, this one from Last Call is probably my favorite. I felt that the loose updo with it’s nicely placed tendrils falling here and there, worked great with this look. It’s the Luna style from Truth. I actually own the blonde pack of that hair, but since my skin’s brows are a dark brown I tinted the hair to look a bit darker. (Please note, tinting does not always work nicely; textures will lose a bit of “shine” when you do this. Also, always make a backup of your hair before you play with tinting.)
I also wanted my av to have an expression that would befit her streaked mascara, so I edited my shape to give her a subtly sad look. (I’ve posted about how to edit your shape for subtle expressions here.)
By the way, if you’re on Flickr and have some images that feature Last Call clothing, don’t forget to add them to the Last Call by Dazzle Haute Couture flickr group.

Winter DiPrima of Laqroki recently released some new knee-high boots, and I’m loving the look of them! I’ve had them for a few days and I’m already getting some pretty good mileage out of them.
I realize the picture above isn’t the greatest for showing off the boots, but I couldn’t not show this because the beige ones go really nicely with the Last Call Dominica outfit and it’s signature Last Call decolletage. Yay for equestrienne sexiness!
But okay, here are some pics that are more close-up, and as always, you can click the images for larger versions on my flickr page:
These boots are a little different from most other boots I’ve seen in SL, because the boot itself is in one piece (not one prim! lol sorry), so you don’t have that odd joint issue at the ankle, which I think may have been necessary given the placement of the buckle and strap on this design. As far as texturing and shape goes, I think these pictures speak for themselves; they look beautiful and realistic.
The boots are sold with Copy/Mod permissions, which is really awesome for getting a good perfect fit. I did a little bit of editing to fit the boots to my shape, and I think it took me maybe 2 or three minutes to do both sides. I actually forgot to show one more color in the shot above; in addition to silver, black, red, white, and beige, the boots also come in brown.
These boots are located in Laqroki’s Apparel department.

Lately I’ve been lauding SL as a way to indulge in dressing up in fantastical ways that one would not in the real world. Sometimes, though, you come across an item in SL that makes you want to dress your avi in a way that is comfortably familiar and resembles the way you dress yourself in RL.
Tonight I came across a set of sculpted wedge shoes from HAYSURIZA that did just that for me.
Pictured above are HAYSURIZA’s Miki Wedge shoes in Autumn. Seeing these shoes instantly reminded me of my favorite pair of wedge heels and made me have a yearning for putting on the kind of laid-back, low-maintenance look that I favor for normal everyday use — a denim mini, a blouse, and then slap on some lipgloss and you’re ready to hit the road
The Miki Wedges come in five variations. Pictured next is the Spring version, which is a creamy off-white color and comes adorned with some pretty pastel baubles:
What appealed to me first and foremost about the Miki wedges is that they seem perfect for pairing with casual outfits; they’re pretty without being too dressy. I can totally imagine kicking these off and tossing them on the black sand at the beach without a second thought Up until now, I’d been wearing the Sunny and Brown Leather versions of my Maitreya Frisky wedges to death. (The brown leather version had been a group gift and I’m not sure if it’s available anymore.) These will make for a nice change. ^^
The texturing details on these shoes are very nicely done. I like the stitching details all along the strappy parts of the uppers, as well as the subtle highlighting. I especially like the textures used on the wedge heels for the winter, earth, and autumn versions, because they look so lifelike. Attention was also paid to the texture on the bottom of the shoe (which I did not take a picture of).
Four of the Miki wedges are named for the seasons, and the fifth is named Earth. The Winter wedge is black with a silvery colored stitch, Summer boasts a pinkish-coral color with white stitching, and the Earth version is a light yellowish-brown color with like-colored stitches. All versions feature a silver-textured buckle on the ankle strap and a few silver grommets, except for the Autumn wedge, which is given gold-textured details instead.
Other SLURLs and credits follow after the cut.
I think I’m particularly fond of items like coats and jackets and other winter-related clothing in SL simply because I never wear these types of clothes in RL. When I TP’d over to Skin Flicks to look for glove layer manicures (I got a French manicure from there when I first started SL and I really like it), my eyes inevitably wandered over to the clothing section where there were some coats and jackets prominently displayed.
Click the following images to view larger sizes on flickr. Credits and SLURLs are at the end of this post.
This first outfit is the Victoria Winter Sport Outfit. I definitely took note of this outfit first! The collar, upper arm sleeve puffs, glove cuffs, and pants legs are all made of sculpty prims; the lower part of the jacket is actually on the skirt layer. As you can see, there’s lots of brown on this outfit, and it’s nicely accented with a gold and white scoopneck shirt that’s mostly hidden except for the arms.
I really dug those puffs on the sleeves; they reminded me a little bit of those cute jackets sold at Tuli that I also like a lot. The pants get my seal of approval too, because of the flattering highlighting and folds that have been drawn onto the seat that will probably make any butt look nice.
The items that are on the system layers are not modifiable, but all of the prim parts are, and the whole thing is transferrable. (Wish I’d thought to look here during the holiday shopping season!)
I also picked up the Victoria Winter coat. The coat comes in black, pink, red, beige, and grey; it took me quite a while to decide what color to get before I decided on black. ^_^ I was pleased to discover that it can be worn in two lengths: there is a prim skirt for the longer version, and a system skirt layer for the shorter version. The skirt prims are flexi, while the collar, sleeve cuffs, and the tie above the waist are sculpties.
Another item I found was this cape from MNK Shop in the Americamura sim. (Gotta love these Japanese sims!) It was love at first sight, what with it’s cuteness, it’s pinkness, it’s fluffy puffy white furballs adorning the neck area, and frilly lacy layers underneath. Even the name given the cape is delicious — they dubbed it the “strawberry chocolate milk cape”.
It’s fun to watch the cape swish around your avi as you navigate about. The cape is almost completely made of prims, with flexiprims for the part that drapes down and sculpty prims for the shoulders and arms (there are two prims for each arm). It comes with a jacket layer item, too, to accommodate your avi’s movements.
MNK Shop has left a bunch of gifts lying around, too. I saw things like belts, a fur shawl, some free poses and an adorable fluffy cat-in-a-box hat. I couldn’t be arsed with taking pics of all of them except for my two favorite gifts, which were the hat and the poses. :p

Okay, so these aren’t really called shitkicker boots by the designer; it just sounds cool to me and it’s a phrase that I know my friend Vivi would use. :p
Here are some zoomed-in shots of the boots. (Btw, I’m using the angel3 and angel10 poses from the Juicy Angel pose set that Gogo recently released, as well as the naughty2 pose from the Juicy Naughty set. They were perfect for showcasing these boots up close and personal, and at 1L for each set you really have no excuse for not having them in your inventory!)

Before I say anything else about the shoes at J’s, there are two caveats that you should be aware of first: (1) there are no demos available, and (2) these shoes run a bit small, even in their “larger” sizes.
These sculpty shoes are the Work Boots from J’s, located in the Tsukishima sim. Creator JB Gazov has done a great job with the sculpty shape of these boots and has taken care with the textures on these, from the upper parts to the brown leather on the flexi laces and the realistic brass of the grommets through which the laces weave. The two different colors of the rear pull-on loops are an interesting feature — the left shoe’s loop is red while the right shoe’s loop is brown. Finishing it off are thick, detailed outsoles that look like they’re ready to provide your avi with some serious traction.
I chose the flashier red color, of course, since red is my favorite color. If that’s not your thing, however, then perhaps you’ll be interested in the more traditional black and brown versions.
The poster in the store says these boots are unisex but from what I saw, there’s no way these boots would fit most of the male avatars that I personally know; as I stated above the shoes at J’s run pretty small. (Machete bought the western boots, and despite the fact that different sized prims are included in the folder, he had to bring down his leg muscle and body thickness sliders in order to be able to fit into the largest versions.)
When I saw the red boots, I immediately thought of my Priestly Vestments coat from Amerie’s Naughty that’s been sitting in my inventory for several months. I love the coat but I’ve never really pulled it out of my digital closet and worn it for a reasonable amount of time… until now. ^_^ It’s a lot of red, for sure, but I felt the boots worked with the almost cartoonish attitude and drama of the coat. Since I want to keep the focus of this post on shoes, I won’t go into detail about the coat, but you can still read the excellent write-up Morrigan Repine did earlier this month at Style Hotline.
Although these boots have a chunky and somewhat masculine look to them, you can definitely work a feminine angle with these by choosing the right items. In the example above, I chose to offset the bulkier shape of the boots by emphasizing a sleek leg line, visually elongating it with black tights and a body-hugging mini-skirt. Topping it off is a cute and decidedly feminine half coat.
J’s features more than just work boots, of course. There are several other sculpty boots that are worth mentioning; while I would have loved to have bought all of them I exercised self-restraint and chose to buy the backribbon boots.
Ladies, before I go any further, I feel I must warn you again right now: these boots were definitely made with a slender girl in mind. I think it has to do with the fact that most Japanese female avatars (at least the ones I’ve seen around) are all on the tinier side. After experimenting with a variety of body shapes, I’ve concluded that if you’ve got a body thickness upwards of 20 or if you’ve got the leg muscle slider set beyond 55, your avi WILL break through the largest non-modifiable sculpty prims.
I really like the height of the heels and the slim look of these boots, which is aided by the solid black coloring. A couple of elements accentuate the color block: zipper details that are part of the texture (not prims) run all the way down the insides of each boot, and on the back of the legs are brass grommets and black leather laces tied in a bow.
As soon as I saw the boots on my avi, I decided I wanted an outfit that would emphasize the leg shape even further. I chose a longish all-black sweater and a black mini-skirt. These two items, like the boots, are completely black in coloring but what really makes them visually interesting are the great cowl neck shape and the wrinkly-looking texture of the skirt. Finishing it off and providing a little bit of contrast is a colorful reddish hairstyle. ^_^
Overall, I’m happy with my purchases, especially the red Work Boots. I’m impressed with the quality of JB’s sculpties and will definitely be keeping an eye out for his future products. While I’m thankful that my new boots fit my avi without too much hassle, however, my only complaint is that I wish there were demos and and that there was more consideration for larger sized avatars. If your avi has a build similar to mines, then you should have no problem fitting these as well, but if your avi is somewhat larger then unfortunately I’d have to advise against spending on these, especially since they are not transferrable.

This eye-catching number is called the tidori 2 coat. While one would think this dramatic mix of patent leather, lace, silver metal parts, patterned material, and a generous helping of black feathers (!) would seem visually cacophonous, it’s all actually pulled together very nicely by limiting the color palette to black and white.
Since the coat is already so visually engaging, I kept the remaining part of the outfit simple with skinny black pants and black ankle boots.
The coat features a belted flexi-prim skirt, prim sleeve cuffs lined with black feathers, two pouch attachments that go on either upper arm, a sculpted prim collar, and a hoodie that’s given a black patent leather texture and more black feathers. A closer inspection of the upper arm pouches reveal a leather zipper slider, white lace, and silver prim buckles.
The upper part of the coat is on the system jacket layer. I noticed that the texture stretches a bit over the breast area, causing the texture to look a little muddy in that area, but it’s a very minor quibble of mine that I can easily overlook. This coat has so much flair and attitude, it’s hard not to love it.
Loved it so much, I went and splurged on the tidori pink coat as well:
There are other color options available as well: red, blue, yellow, and two others that I’ve forgotten (sorry). The coat also comes in red plaid as well as an interesting “black wave” pattern.
This next jacket from Ce Cubic Effect features a cable knit texture that shows up very clearly on the sculpty prims it’s been applied to.
The first thing that grabs your attention about this jacket is it’s incredible shape. Thanks to sculpties, designers have been creating prim attachments with realistic shapes for collars, sleeves, wrist cuffs and the like, and they’re often used to enhance clothing that goes on the usual system layers. A few designers, such as June Dion from Bare Rose, have been taking sculpty clothing even further, crafting entire outfits out of prims. mirai Jun of Ce Cubic Effect seems to be following suit; her store inventory include coats and an entire dress made of prims.
I tried to get shots of this jacket from all sorts of angles so that the great shape of this piece shows through. It’s been endowed with a figure-enhancing blouson shape, something that’s simply not possible on a system layer clothing article. the same pouf-ish effect is used on the sleeves so that it looks as if you’ve pushed the sleeves up your arms slightly. The neckline is also given a great sculpty collar shape, creating an opportunity to show off some of the more dramatic necklaces you’ve got stashed in your inventory.
The areas where you see the material “gather” are actually where the sculpty prims end, exposing the system jacket layer texture that lies beneath it.
A word of warning: people with somewhat bustier/thicker avis may want to see this jacket in person before making the purchase. My own avatar, while not the tiniest one around, is definitely on the slight side of the sliders and in spite of this fact I still needed to edit my shape. Yes, the prims on this jacket are all modifiable, but for some reason mirai chose to give them mod/no copy/transfer permissions, so I was hesitant about editing the prims without having the insurance of a copied backup first.
What I needed to edit were my avi’s breasts. Yes, they’re not exactly large to begin with :-p but it wasn’t the size that I had to edit; rather, what I found I needed to do was increase the cleavage a little bit so that they wouldn’t poke out through the sides of the jacket prims. Here’s a picture showing my avi wearing the jacket with and without the edit:
The system jacket layer has got my avi covered, but the difference in the clarity of texture rendering between the jacket layer and the prim is quite noticeable and I didn’t care for it. A quick adjustment on a single shape slider was all that was needed, though, so I’m quite happy with how it turned out.

About three days ago I was looking at Machete and realized I was tired of always seeing him run around barefoot and wearing shorts and wifebeaters. Sure, he’s got a few clothing items: a pair of freebie jeans, a pair of chucks from KK Outfitters, a really nice sweater set from Nylon Outfitters that has more or less been worn to death, and a suit from Aitui that I don’t care for (don’t get me wrong, Aitui is one of my all-time favorite stores because they sell things like kukui nut leis and plumeria blossoms but the giant “AITUI” scrawled along the back of Machete’s neck on his suit collar is a bit of a misstep IMO). Still, I felt it was time to add a little more to his closet.
An impromptu shopping expedition to the Japan sims was undertaken (seriously, they’re given names like JAPAN 01, JAPAN 02, JAPAN 10) and I was not disappointed. Stores I’d never heard of before, such as :sey, -=about=-, and Chase all yielded some fun finds. What made it even more fun for me was the fact that a lot of these clothes will work on girl avis, too.
All right, enough of my jibba-jabba. Let’s see some pics of Machete’s new duds. ^_^ Clicking on the images will take you to their respective flickr pages where you can view larger versions. SLURLs and credit info are at the end of this post.
Machete picked up this black jacket at a store called Chase. There are actually two versions of the jacket included in the folder: one with a white undershirt showing at the neckline, and one that has just the jacket itself so that you can layer another shirt underneath. Prim attachments at the wrists and at the collar finish the look nicely, and the prim attachment at the collar also has some flexi-prim parts that add some realism to the jacket. Machete also grabbed this triple hook pendant. I’m normally not a very big fan of these choker type cord necklaces in SL because I don’t care much for the way they float around the neck, but it works with this jacket since the prim collar masks the whole suspended-in-air thing that’s going on.
Another fantastic find: a store that’s simply called “-=about=-“. Machete bought the black suit set there and I loved it so much, I had to get it for myself. The designer at -=about=- obviously understands that people like me are fond of mixing and matching their clothes, because a lot of what’s sold in this store is loaded with layering options.
Take the black suit pictured above, for example: you can choose to wear the shirt tucked or untucked, under a jacket or by itself, and with or without the necktie since the tie is actually a prim attachment. You can also choose to wear a different shirt underneath because the suit jacket is also provided on the jacket layer sans white shirt, but please note that I did find two small white markings on the sternum area where alpha is used (see the left portion of the image above); wearing a white or a very light-colored item with the jacket seems to render the markings virtually invisible but they are there.
As you can see, the suit works just great on a female avatar. While a lot of this is owing to the way system layer clothing is applied to our avis, the lack of strong pectoral shading and definition helps. (Guys who deliberately choose to have a “normal” avatar that isn’t ripped, cut, and chiseled to so-called muscled perfection will also appreciate this, I think.) To help soften the masculine feel of the suit, I chose to wear a skin that comes with dramatic smoky eye makeup and red lips, prim lashes, red nail enamel, and an ultra-feminine hairstyle that is long and wavy.
In this next picture, Machete is wearing the military jacket and denim jeans also from -=about=-. This jacket is what really made me consider buying the men’s clothing at -=about=- for myself in the first place. The olive green texture is incredibly detailed and has that faded, ultra-comfortable look that immediately makes you think it’s someone’s favorite and oft-worn jacket. Denim items that feature torn and frayed details work well with this weathered look.
Once again, -=about=-’s designer gives you options. Machete is wearing the “rolled up sleeves” version in the picture above, and my own avi is wearing the version that comes with full-length sleeves. Modifiable prim attachments are provided for the collar and sleeve cuffs. (Remember: always make a backup copy of the prim before you begin editing!)
-=about=- also sells a shirt set which, imo, gives a thorough offering of layering options that really ought to be the SL standard by now for both men’s and women’s clothing. The shirt set features a t-shirt that you can choose to wear either tucked or untucked, with or without the plaid print overshirt, and it’s up to you if you’d like for the overshirt to have long sleeves or rolled up sleeves. Hell, you can even wear the overshirt by itself to show off those nice tattoos you’ve got on your chest :p , or layered over another shirt from your virtual closet (provided that it comes with an underpants layer, but that’s not something I see very many menswear designers offering).
I chose the black and white shirt for myself and it’s going to go in my “! Favorites” folder in my inventory. Because I own a shape shop, my avi is often in a state of dress (or perhaps I should say undress) that isn’t considered especially polite when you’ve company… so I have a pair of shorts and a Tableau t-shirt in this folder for quick access for whenever I get unexpected visitors. This shirt makes for a nice and (very) cheap replacement of the Tableau tee. ^_^
This next picture shows jackets that come from :sey. Machete had actually stumbled across :sey in the Japan10 sim, but risey Arai’s landmarks all point to his main store in the Honmoku sim. :sey offers a good variety of jackets and coats, and the first thing you’ll notice about them is the detailed primwork with which they are adorned. Tiny prims, flexi-prims, sculpty prims — these jackets have got it all. If you’re not afraid of primmy clothing and you appreciate attention to detail, then these are worth checking out.
Machete is wearing the Riders Jacket in gold/brown. The word “gold” in the description refers to the metal used for this jacket; risey also sells a version of the jacket that uses silver metal. Nice to have that kind of choice, huh! The jacket comes with a double belt that sports lots of studs, grommets and buckles. This theme of lots of small metal pieces is repeated at the collar and sleeve cuff prims, and is offset by a mixing of different leathers (patent and suede). When you make the purchase, you are given both the male and female jackets, so there’s no need to worry about accidentally buying the incorrect gender version.
The jacket I’m wearing was simply named “leather jacket”. I chose red but it’s offered in all sorts of colors, and you can choose to purchase it either by itself or as part of a jacket and pants set. The leather texture on this jacket has a great glossy look to it and the winged skull on the back is a cool detail. This unisex jacket comes with even more prim attachments than the Riders Jacket, with a collar prim, sleeve cuff prims, and a pair of prims that circle the upper arms. Lots of metal is featured on this jacket as well, but in a less prominent manner; the metal pieces are generally smaller than the ones you’ll find on the Riders Jacket. The metals appear as both prims and as part of the textures; I especially liked the decorative zipper sliders on the upper arm attachments.
All told, I had a lot of fun looking at men’s clothing for my avi. There’s more goodies that I got at :sey that I’ll be blogging later; I’m going to have to start paying more attention to menswear from now on!

A new line of woolly scarves and beanies was set out recently at KK Outfitters in Plush Kappa. The scarves, which include flexi-prims for the parts that hang down, come in a lot of different color combinations. The beanies also come in a variety of colors and sport several different logos on the front.
If you’ve followed my blog at all, then you may well be aware that yours truly is one hell of an indecisive person. (Case in point: it took me one whole hour to decide on what breed of dog I wanted from Zooby’s; after I decided to get a lab, it took another agonizing hour to choose between the black, the chocolate, and the yellow. Gogo can testify to this because I pestered her via IMs the entire time.)
Being confronted with the quantity of choices offered at KK Outfitters normally would’ve guaranteed that my avi’s feet would be planted on that store’s premises for a considerable amount of time, but in reality it took me only a few minutes. That’s because they’re priced so affordably, I just bought them all haha. :p (Note: these were all the colors that were available at the time I started on this post; more color options will be forthcoming.)
Red is my favorite color, but… I think I like the pink ones best!
And yes, it’s not your imagination… aside from the pink ones, those are all the colors representing the different Houses of Hogwarts! Do you know of any Harry Potter fans that treated themselves to the Hogwarts costume offered at Winter Moon? These will go perfect with the school outfit.
What pleased me in particular about these scarves is the fact that you get them pre-set in two styles. You can wear them backwards as well forward, without any fuss!
Also pictured below are two of the beanies, worn by Ary. My favorite is the one with the skull and crossbones. To get a larger view of these images, just click them and you’ll be taken to their respective flickr pages:
You can find these along with a killer selection of chucks and baseball caps at KK Outfitters in Plush Kappa.
