I picked up fri.day‘s freebie ballet sweater a while ago for my alt and I really liked it, so when they held their sale earlier this month I knew I had to get it in black.
After I put on my new sweater, I decided I wanted to dress my av up as if she were heading to ballet class. ^_^ While doing so, I ended up rediscovering some oldies-but-goodies that still look good. You can click on the images to see larger versions.
My Tess hair from LAQ, which works with the hairbase option on my all-time favorite skin, was perfect for this look. I searched for legwarmers in my inventory and unearthed some older BP* “ungry rabbit” legwarmers! These are no longer sold at BP* (hehe, vintage), but the lace versions are still available and Bettie’s got lots of other colorful types available now. I also threw on my Blaze tights (another old favorite) and the cute free flats I recently got at In Her Shoes.
I felt my look wasn’t complete, however, without a shoulder bag. After all, when you head in to dance class, you need to bring things like your shoes, extra hairbands, water bottle, towel, and maybe some jeans for afterward. I rootled through my inventory for a bit to see if there were any shoulder bags that would work, and I found some old Sumi (Tuli) lucky chair bags that I got last year. (I wish she’d make stuff like this again, they’re so freaking CUTE.)
I realized at that point that I don’t have any bag holding poses. I’d always meant to make a bunch of shoulder bag poses but that’s just one of the one-hundred-gajillion things I’ve been meaning to do in SL that I never got around to. I decided that I would do some poses right then and there, and here are the four I did just for this post
I’m probably going to be making these bag poses available later at my store, Mela’s. I dunno when :p
Right after I took these shots, I found out from my friend Vivi that I could get my WinterChoice!2009 CSR cards stamped a day early if I joined the Choice! group. (If you’re not familiar with the Choice! events, please visit here for more info.) I wasted no time and got my cards stamped, and one of the first things I unpacked was the DPyumyum white tiger avatar. Oh my god… this avatar is SO KEWT. Seriously! I fell in love with it and ran around SL as White Tiger Mel for several days <3 and took this fun, short dance vid:
Sweater – fri.day, Ballet Sweater
Tiger avatar – DPyumyum WinterChoice!2009 CSR gift (obtained by redeeming fully stamped CSR card at the Choice! Event Hall)
Tights – Blaze pantyhose
Legwarmers – BP*, legwarmers usagi (discontinued item)
Shoes – In Her Shoes, Bows Bows Distressed black flats
Bag – Sumi (Tuli), When pigs fly (discontinued lucky chair item) [slurl leads to current temp location in the sky]
Skin – LAQ Trisha (hairbase version)
Hair – LAQ Tess; Mau’s & Mej’s, Daiyu noneedle
Necklace – custom gift from the best partner in the world, Carson <3
Poses by me, which I might make available along with the rest of my poses at my store Mela’s depending on how lazy I’m feeling
addendum: People have been asking where the video was shot. It was shot in my workstudio! I use a KMH skybox, with a couple of walls removed and a deck added. The clock on the wall is a freebie from Chronokit.
I’m naughty — I had these in my inventory for a bit and only got to blogging them today! It’s just that I’ve been busy/consumed/obsessed with different projects. This post will be picture-intense, so to balance things out I will attempt to refrain from indulging in my usual verbosity. Emphasis on the word “attempt”. :p
Okay… today’s post is all about a lovely shop named Kouse’s Sanctum. I first learned about the white-haired Kouse Singh on flickr, where she posts beautiful images from the fantasy side of SL. Think Avilion, elves, and dragons. ^_^ Well, I guess I’ve been residing under a sculpted rock or something because it was quite a pleasant squee-worthy surprise to discover that Kouse has been crafting beautiful gowns.
First gown up: the magnificent Celestial Empress gown in Azure. You know, my favorite color is actually red, but show me a dress like this and I could easily forget that fact, hehe. An Evanescence song came on the radio just as I put this on, so I might’ve channeled a very slight bit of Amy Lee when accessorizing. ^^
Here is the Emerald version:
You know what’s great about gowns like Kouse’s? Pair them up with a romantic hairstyle like this one and you get a perfect showcase for your lovely shoulders, and imho there’s blessed little out there that can capture that right balance of fantasy, romance and sexiness without venturing into tramp territory. Gratuitous shoulder shot next :p
Kouse is generous. This next version of the Celestial Empress is called the Midnight Kiss, and it’s a group freebie and even comes with a tiara and necklace.
The corset lacing along the back is positively delicious. I’m a big fan of stuff that shows off the curvature of the spine; the more, the better, I say!
Another series of gowns to take a look at is the Lady Serenity. This next photo shows the Cirrus version of Lady Serenity (worn with white hair in honor of Kouse ^^):
There is a subtle difference between the two dresses in that shot above — the skirt on the right is actually somewhat transparent. All of Kouse’s gowns come with different flexi-skirt options. Some are slightly transparent, others are built larger so that you can use the outfit as a ballgown.
Lady Serenity comes in other colors, too. Here it is in Red Rose:
Again, the two skirt options:
Last but not least, the Lady LeShelle dress in Forest:
Lady LeShelle comes with two prim belts in silver and gold. I meant to show the Lady LeShelle gown in black, too, but I couldn’t find some of the prim pieces in that great ever-expanding maw that I call my inventory.

Wow, lots of great hairstyle goodies came out over the past few days, plus I came across a really cute hair store called Candy House. Here’s a bunch of my favorites…
I love the hair at ETD because the styles there almost always fit my avi right away. If I ever need to edit ETD hair, it’s usually just some minor change like moving a prim ever so slightly so that it doesn’t cover up an ear. Upon visiting the newly remodeled store, I was immediately drawn to the romantic-looking Marisela hairstyle which you see pictured here.
Using my Armidi giftcard, I was also finally able to treat myself to the Roxy style that I’ve been wanting for a while now. ^^
Another hairstyle that I adored is the Berri2 by Truth. I didn’t buy it for my main avi because it didn’t quite look right on my shape, but my altie sure looks adorable in it. There were actually a bunch of new styles that just came out at Truth and the demos are free, so it’s definitely worth your while to take a look there.
While running around some random Japanese sims, I came across the adorably named Candy House, which is owned by the equally adorably named Marina Puff. Candy House has more of a cozy boutique feel to it, with roughly a dozen hairstyles. What’s great about Candy House is that you get all the available colors in just one package for just 120L, and as if that weren’t plenty of value for your money, some of the packages contain the hairstyle with different types of bangs… again in each color. Awesome stuff, really!
All right, instead of writing a whole lot more about the hairstyles I grabbed at Candy House, I shall simply let the pictures do the talking.
FYI — this Mocomoco style has texture change hair accessories on it. You simply click on each part to cycle through the textures. This hair is modifiable and so I plan on eventually loading some of my own patterned textures in it.
And oh my goodness… I am in love with this hair from BettiePage Voyager’s shop in Osaka. After seeing it on Natasha, I HAD to have this hair, even if it meant camping at the BP* lucky chair for it. (It’s not for sale and is offered only as a freebie from the chair.)
Okay, and now for a completely abrupt change in subject, (because quite frankly I am too tired at the moment to come up with some clever segue)… I have two cute chairs up for sale at my shop in Juicy (the sim formerly known as La Reina).
Yay, I’m blogging on Grid Expectations now, people will actually read what I write! Comparing traffic stats between our Poseur blog and here was humbling.
Gogo teleported me to BP* because the lucky chair had a letter N. (Sucks for Niki that she wasn’t on!) She had been watching the chair there because of some fabulous hair that Triangle Caudron had posted. I can see why my circle of friends went a little chair camping mad for this hair! It can’t be bought, you can only get it from the chair.
I am calling this look my Disco Bitch look, thanks to Vivi for the excellent name suggestion.
The pose is from mine and Nikita’s shop!
Sorry for not including the location where I got the clothes. I had several messages all asking where I got this! I got it from a lucky chair at an authorized reseller’s store. Only the green version is in the chair but I think there were other colors for sale too.
BettiePage Voyager, proprietor of the wonderfully whimisical BP*, has released three new hairstyles today, and hoo boy, talk about KEWT. >.<
She’s dubbed this series of hairstyles “heavy bangs hair”, and all of them come in a rich chocolate color that I think should work with most skintones. They’re named “pony”, “pop”, and “twin”, all of which coincides with the adorable lil’ pigtails that they sport in varying positions.
Here you go, feast your eyes on these cuties (clicking the images will take you to their respective flickr pages where you can view a larger size):
As always, you can demo these for free at BP* and then pick them up for an affordable L$100 per style.
One of the nice things about Second Life is that you can indulge a bit of escapist fun. (Pardon my penchant for stating the obvious. ) So while RL weather temperatures may have been plummeting for a lot of SL residents within the past couple of months, we can all still hit the sun, sand, and surf in SL… and as with all things, we try to do so with a bit of style.
A couple of days ago my friend Sahra showed me a cute blue bikini, and I promptly asked where she’d bought it. Turns out her friend Schrottvogel Wei, who owns SJA Customboards, is now designing swimwear as well. Long story short: I asked to join his update group, and ended up with four of his new bikinis, one of which (the blue one) is a freebie. Yay!
He’s got a total of eight designs up right now, all of which are currently priced at an affordable L$100 (aside from the freebie). He passed the freebie to me along with his red “scull” bikini, after which I visited his shop and picked up the pink “hibiskus” and white “turtle” sets as well (additional credits and SLURLs are at the end of this post):
They are all string-tie bikinis, and I like how Schrottvogel added shading to all of the string parts to give it a more realistic look, the texture doesn’t just sit flatly on your avi’s skin. He’s also placed some nipple shading on the bikini tops — the degree to which the nipple shading shows is dependent on the color of the bikini. While the nipples were more pronounced on the blue and red sets, they were much more subtle on the white set and barely discernible on the pink set.
I have a huge pet peeve when it comes to bikinis: I hate, hate, HATE when I blow something to the tune of L$200 on a bikini/swimsuit, only to find that it does not cover my avi’s nether regions adequately. I’m happy to report that this is not an issue with these bikinis. While they are definitely sexy, what with the the string portion between the breasts and the ties at the hips, back, and neck, they are not crotch-and-ass-baring skanky. Your kitty and tush are all nicely covered up… well, maybe a very slight amount of crack shows but it’s not stripperific-type exposure.
My biggest praise for these bikinis is over the layering options. Tattoo users, rejoice! Schrottvogel has thoughtfully put these on every possible layer: jacket, shirt, undershirt, pants, and underpants. I love when designers do that!
You can check out the surfboards and swimwear by SJA Customboards at Hedonistic Isle. While you’re at it, don’t forget to grab your freebie!

I’ll explain the title of this post in a bit, but first let’s cover the important stuff.
What do you get when you mix four women, two to three years of development experience cultivated on IMVU, and relatively new statuses on Second Life with rez-days dating back to just this past May, August, and as recently as this month?
The answer: a breath of fresh air in the SL fashion scene known as D!FF.
Earlier today when I met up with my friend Gogo, she was wearing a cool T-shirt paired with these perfect skinny jeans that she said she’d just gotten at a store called D!FF, located on the Juicy sim. Naturally, I had to go check the store out for myself. Here are some of the goodies I picked up while there (clicking on the images will take you to their respective flickr pages):
The D!FF Stripe*d Sweatars (yep, that’s how it’s spelled) come in a pack of three, colored grey, olive, and peachy. You can see the attention to detail on these off-the-shoulder sweaters — the sweater’s texture doesn’t simply abruptly start and end at the neckline and hem; rather there is a ribbed knit band that circles the shoulders, wrists, and waist.
Next up, we have the D!FF Blue-ee Darke*d Jeans, a pair of skinny dark jeans that are destined to become one of my wardrobe staples. I’m already imagining the possibilities with these jeans… Ever admired that skinny jeans + baggy shirt + big bag + pumps + messy yet ostensibly sexy hair look that Kate Moss pulls off with utter ease? These are the jeans to use to emulate that look. I’m already thinking about how these will go perfect with my Enkythings Talyn pumps, a prim scarf from perhaps BP* or Petit Ange, and a longish type of shirt/blouse like Blaze’s Boyfriend Buttondown or Last Call’s Carolynn Ruffled Shirt, or perhaps Last Call’s Starley II Mini Sweater Dress (just don’t forget to wear your dress shape with that). Top if off with Naughty Designs’ Nicole sculpty hairstyle, aviators like primOptic’s rebans, and a big bag… and you’re set!
Just as a side note, one of the girls at D!FF shared that they will be working on releasing these jeans in different colors. W00t!
You can’t have jeans without some T-shirts to go with it, of course, and D!FF has got you covered. Their tees range from the silly and playful such as the I LOVE NERDS tee and the White Rehab*d Tee, to the somewhat understated yet elegant Circle Tree*d Tees that come in red, blue, green, and grey.
I’m not sure which item I like better; the jeans or this super cute-yet-sexy Pink Bra*d Cami. Again, the attention to texturing details is evident on this piece. The slight sheen on the black bra that boldly peeks out at the top combined with the shading on the pink cami itself gives the distinct impression of a push-up bra, and the subtle shadows and highlights drawn across the cami suggests the snug fit of the material as it is stretched over the torso.
And is a store really a store in SL if it doesn’t offer at least one or two freebies? D!FF makes this cute Vintage Mustard Bow Top available for L$0, which you can grab from the sign that’s located at the entrance to the store.
UPDATE… It might be a little confusing, trying to locate the freebie. You must click on the word “free” on the sign in order to get the items, clicking on any other part of the sign will not work.
Pay a visit to D!FF in the Juicy sim to find these goodies and more:
What we’re wearing:
Gogo is wearing ETD Loopy hairstyle in platinum, MinnuModel Pale SkinGloss in Rain, and her own custom shape. I’m wearing ETD Hailey hairstyle in chestnut, Celestial Studio Vogue skin in Smoky Noir Champagne, Enkythings Talyn Black pumps, Nea-Ban Retro Standard scripted glasses, and Mela’s Pacific Rose body shape.
All right, I said at the start of the post that I’d explain the title a bit more. So far, other than D!FF I’ve done only one other “awesome store alert” posting on this blog. I’ve created an Awesome Store Alert category for future alerts. Whenever I come across a store that is relatively new on the scene and I feel is deserving of more attention and should be watched for future releases, I’ll write about it and post to this category.
The Fashion Vote bit is based on the concept of dollar voting. What is dollar voting? It’s basically the idea that whenever we buy something, we are casting dollar votes for it. Here, Wikipedia explains it much better than I’m capable of doing at this time :-p Fashion Vote blog posts will simply be a review/recap of avatar appearance-related items that I’ve purchased, or “voted” for. The idea is that by sharing what I’ve bought, I’m sharing what I feel are items that are noteworthy and deserving of people’s money. Keep an eye out on this category; there will be other people contributing to this as well.

My first attempt ever…
All right and here’s my second attempt..
I am obsessed with love my new umbrella from Tweet. I picked it up at Boneflower. The hot pink raincoat in the second one is from BP, BettiePage Voyager’s store that I love so much!
My friend Gorgeous recently turned me on to BP*, a shop owned by BettiePage Voyager. She actually has three locations, and upon visiting all three I discovered that each location has at least one exclusive item that you won’t find at the other two.
I picked up this this dress and hairstyle, which I really like a lot. You know I’m really liking an outfit/hairstyle if it stays on my avi for more than two hours :p and this ensemble made it through an entire day.
I won’t go into too much detail because I really think the pictures speak for themselves. The dungaree dress and the wild ponytail hairstyle are exceptionally well-crafted, and everywhere I went people were asking me where I got my outfit from.
Other items pictured above are freebie earrings, necklace, and slippers from Lassitude & Ennui.
Lassitude & Ennui:
